Game 20 - Season Finale - September 18th - Wolff Park

Posted in games by Administrator on the September 19th, 2007

That there was a damn fine finale. Sorry to all y’all road trippin’ folks, but I’m sure you’re having an adequately fun time as well. There were many big winners last, including everyone in the NSCC, and Denver’s finest, who finally tracked us down and broke up a game, albeit right when we were packing up to leave, and after the hard liquor and champagne had already been stashed and trash cans returned to their proper places. Speaking of trash cans, good hustle people, all those years of practice really payed off when the sprinklers came on.

John was the big winner of the season with 13 total points, beating out Poops and Shane, who tied for 2nd with 12 points each. In a 3 way tie for 3rd place were Mike, Boyd and Dom with 10 points each.

The chicken fight was massive, with more teams than I recall ever seeing compete. The battle was handily won by defending champs Shane and Mike, who have apparently worked on their dismount technique since last year.

Sonia was the winner of the final game, easily defeating game winners John, Dom, Dave and Dak. She finishes the season with 6 points, putting her into 5th place and winning her the Ladies title.

Askimbo pulled out the last minute, 3 point surge to win the house challenge with 26 total points, narrowly beating Ft. Downing’s 25, and the BCH’s 23. There was some complaining about the fact that houses seemed to be conspiring amongst themselves to boost individual rankings, and a call to have the house challenge stopped, but it all seemed to come from people who did not win.

So all around, a great season, and a great conclusion to it. Next game is at Wolff park sometime next year. Anybody want to put out some bets on the contenders? Post your picks and guesses as comments. Here’s where it stands at the end of the ‘07 season. Good game y’all.

Game 19 - September 11th - McDonough Park

Posted in games by Administrator on the September 12th, 2007

So I was informed by several people that I was wrong in my initial posting of last weeks scores.  Poops was the big winner and not Boyd as I had previously said, which changes things around a bit. Poops is now in a 3 way tie for first with Shane and John, and Boyd is tied for 2nd with Mike, which means that Dom should be in 3rd. Other game winners were Dave, Mike Lyons, and Ed. Eric got a wicket kill despite not being able to stand up. I’m about to get on a plane, so the website and posters and shit probably won’t get updated in anything near a timely manner. Next week is the last game of the ‘07 season, and as always, that means Wolff and chicken-fighting and our official class of ‘07 portrait or whatever. Here’s where it stands going into the last game. I hope.

John - 12 points

Game 17 - August 28th - Jefferson Park

Posted in games by Administrator on the August 29th, 2007

So the big decision last night was how long the season would go on. Early consensus seemed to be for one more week, but the almost unanimous majority at the end of the game favored 3 weeks more, which would make this season 1 week shorter than last season (21 games). So the schedule for the remainder of the year is as follows (unless it decides to change). Next week (September 4th) at Cuernevaca Park, the week after (September 11th), McDonough, and season finale on September 18th, at Wolff, as always.

On to the game. The big winner was AJ Boyd who now has a grand total of 3 points, which I think was the same number of points he scored in his first game last season. Another “better late than never” player to score last night was Deme who got his first win of the season, and possibly of his career. Who’s down with OPP? Deme is. The final three players to win their games will probably come as a surprise to y’all. John, Shane and Dom all won their games in surprise up-sets over heavily favored opponents to move up into 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively, which by an odd stroke of luck, are the exact same places they were in last week, except now they dropped Mike and Poops down a notch into 2nd and 3rd place ties. In the house challenge no places were moved, but Ft. Downing and BCH did add a point to their lead over Clay st. There were no wicket kills, but there were several killed mallets and a couple of bruised egos and shattered dreams. Next week is at City of Cuernevaca Park, and here’s where it stands going into the home stretch.

Game 16 - August 21st - Ruby Hill

Shit, forgot to do this before. The big winner was Dom, who destroyed everybody in one turn of the poison battle. His victims, many of whom never got a turn, were Mike G, Josh, Boyd, and Steph. I think. It’s been a bit and we’ve played the tournament since then. Let me know if I remembered wrong. Zach and Mike also got wicket kills. Next game is at Jefferson Park and here are the standings.

Game 15 - City Park - August 14th

Posted in games by Administrator on the August 15th, 2007

Eric was the big winner last night, and I don’t think anyone has ever been more of a crowd favorite. With his two points, he doubles his score to 4 and breaks into the top half of the ranks. Also winning their games were Jess, John, Ed and Poops. Gen also got a poison wicket kill for her first point. In the house challenge, no places were changed, but the BCH closed the gap with Ft. Downing by 2. Next week is Ruby Hill. Here are the standings.

Game 13 - Sunken Gardens - July 31st

Posted in games by Administrator on the August 2nd, 2007

Game 13 was all about the action on the podium. John and Poops moved up from 2nd and 3rd respectively into a tie for 1st, bumping Shane, Dave and Mike down to 2nd and Boyd into 3rd. John got his 2 points by winning his game and the poison battle, and Poops took his game with 2 poison kills for 3 points total. Josh, Bergonz, and the new guy Sean all got game wins as well. With Poops’ 3 points, Ft. Downing expands its lead in the house challenge, and John and Josh’s 3 were good to pass up Clay st into 2nd. Next week is at Gates Crescent Park, which is a bit south of the Children’s Museum and the railroad tracks where we’ve played in the past. Here are the standings.

Poops - 8 points
John - 8 points

Dave - 7 points
Shane - 7 points
Mike - 7 points

Boyd - 6 points

Game 12 - July 24th, 2007 - Apel-Bacher Park

Posted in games by Administrator on the July 25th, 2007

Great game last night y’all. I’m not sure why I keep saying that, because if they weren’t all great games, then why the fuck would we keep coming back week after week, year after year. Anyhow, action all across the board. The big winner was Sonia, who with her game and poison battle wins, jumps into 4th place with 4 points total. She also passes up Melanie, Jess and Josh to be the highest ranked lady. Mike G moves into the first place bracket in a tie with Shane and Dave at 7 points a piece. His Clay st. Compatriot, Boyd, moved up into his vacant place in 2nd, and into a tie with John at 6 points each. With Mike and Boyd’s points, Clay st. moves into a tie for 1st in the House challenge against Ft. Downing, who was shut down all around. Eric, king of the wicket kills for the last few years finally got himself one this year, moving him out of the OPP and keeping the BCH alive in the House challenge. In the NPP ranks, there was a lot of excitement. The Leightrix and Ricky, who we all know deserved a point more than damn near anybody, both shot out of the NPP ranks and skipped right over the OPP with wicket kills and game wins. Also making a great showing in the NPP bracket were Joy and Genevieve, who, although they didn’t win, killed off most of a very formidable game. So that’s roughly what happened. Sonia called Sunken Gardens, and here’s where we stand now.

STANDINGS

Dave - 7 points
Shane - 7 points
Mike - 7 points

John - 6 points
Boyd - 6 points

Dom - 5 points
